Timber Trail Adventure
Day 1: At 8:30 AM, we will pick you up from your accommodation in Taupo and transfer you to Pureora Forest, the starting point of the Timber Trail. The transfer takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Upon arrival, we will provide a briefing on the trail's highlights and key points of interest before you embark on the 39 km ride to the Timber Trail Lodge.
Key highlights of Day 1 include the stunning Pureora native podocarp forest, the climb over Mt. Pureora, and the second-largest swing bridge on the trail. While you ride, we will transport your luggage to the lodge. The lodge provides linen, a welcome pizza, dinner, breakfast on Day 2, and a packed lunch for Day 2. After a hot shower and an epic day of riding, you can unwind at the lodge's bar.
Day 2: Following breakfast (continental from 7:00 AM and cooked from 7:30 AM), you will ride the second half of the trail to Ongarue. We will transport your bags and be ready to shuttle you back to Taupo, which takes approximately 2 hours.
Day 2 highlights include the largest swing bridge (Maramataha) on any New Zealand cycleway (141 meters), more breathtaking native forest, historical tramways, and the Ongarue Spiral, New Zealand's only tram spiral.
For your safety and convenience, we provide a satellite tracker to stay in touch and monitor your location on the trail, as cell reception is limited.
