Full Timber trail in 1 day (Ex Taupo)
Dauer: 7 Stunden (ca.)
The Timber trail is fast gaining international recognition as an exceptional back country ride. Ancient forests, Tram ways and of course the incredible new engineering of the massive swing bridges and old engineering of the Ongarue spiral. Your adventure begins in Taupo at 7am. You will be driven to the start of the trail in Pureora (1:15min) with a quick coffee stop in Whakamaru to top up the caffeine levels, we aim to have you riding by 8:45am. You must be self sufficient for the full distance. Water is not easily available on the trail. Highlights of the first half include the podocarp native bush, the climb to 980m above sea level on Mt Pureora and of course the 2nd largest swing bridge at the 22km marker. A toilet is located at 27km. After passing the piropiro camp site at aprox 40km your ride will continue along the well signposted trail hitting the largest of the swing bridges at the 44km marker. This 141m swing bridge will literally take your breath away. A 3km climb after the bridge brings you to the Terminus clearing. You still have 18 bridges to cross and of course the Ongarue spiral to ride around and through at 75km. The van will meet you at the end of the trail. We load up your bikes and tired bodies and head home via Taumaranui for a well earned coffee or food stop. The drive back to Taupo takes approx 1:50min. You will need to carry with you clothing suitable for the alpine conditions near the top of Pureora Mountain. 1st aid and bike maintenance equipment is also essential. This is a remote ride and must be respected and prepared for. We will provide a satellite tracker and communicator as there is no cell reception on the trail.
Bike hire is available.
